Happy Father’s Day! I was looking through my stickies this week, planning on putting up something about a father (or maybe a few stickies about fathers) when I ran across this little gem. It’s technically not a sticky. It’s a page in one of my small writing folders, but it is the beginning of the sticky obsession for me. I realized very early on in NaNoWriMo 2005 that if I didn’t have time to write a whole scene, I could write a little blurb in my notebook or on a scrap piece of paper and it would help me remember later what I was going to write. Of course scrap paper has a tendency to get lost, so when I got the job at the lab just before NaNo ‘06 and I wasn’t allowed to take my notebook in I would write my little notes on the stickies that I always had in my lab coat. But it was really NaNo ‘05 and this “sticky” that started it.
So this week’s ”sticky” is from Lane’s Girl, my NaNo ‘05 novel, and is one of the last times we see Lane before he becomes a father (and a very good father, even if it is only for several years). So Happy Father’s Day to Lane, Gar, my own doddy, and all the other father’s out there.
This is a fun sticky with two different stories on it. The top half of the sticky is talking about Lane’s Girl, where I’ve been trying to decide where to start. I thought of writing the first scene where Rebecca dies as the prologue, and then jumping back to tell the story of her and Lane as young apprentices instead of the current version which is done half in flashbacks and may be confusing. I wrote this sticky about a year ago, and I still haven’t decided which I prefer. But in the meantime I’m writing all of the history so that if I do decide to put it all in I have it all written up.
The second half of the sticky is from After Ancient – another argument between Dr. Meara and impatient Lizzie, who didn’t listen to her doctor’s good advice from last week’s sticky.
So, last week’s sticky didn’t exactally work out. I recently purchased a new computer, and somehow it stopped working right around the time that I decided to attach the scanner. I’ve fixed the problem now, but I missed last week’s sticky note post. Please Forgive.
This week’s sticky comes from Lane’s Girl. The picture is of Archein, the largest city-state in the area, where Lane and Rebecca live. I was trying to get an idea of the city layout – since drawing this sticky it has changed a bit, but that might make it onto a sticky later.
